Flying can become an exciting part of your life.  The sensation of breaking the bounds of the earth and navigating above the towns and fields to see our world in a way that few experience, can only be understood by those who have done it.  Flying challenges you, provides continuous learning, builds confidence, and makes you a member of an exclusive and wonderful family called “pilots.”

What is a Private Pilot Certificate?

A Private Pilot Certificate is much like our driver’s licenses, except it enables you to fly an airplane!  Along with the fun you will have flying, it also puts destinations you never thought of, within reach.

Requirements:

  • You must be 17 years of age (16 years old to solo) and write, speak and understand English.
  • Obtain a third class FAA Medical Certificate issued by an FAA Approved Physician
  • Fly a minimum of 40 hours: including 10 hours solo, 20 hours instructional, 5 hours solo cross-country (more than 50 Nautical Miles), 3 hours at night and 3 hours on instruments only. Please note that these times are all minimums.  The national average for completion is somewhere around 70 hours. Our average is 55 hours.
  • Pass a 50-question multiple-choice knowledge test given at an FAA Approved Test Center.
  • Pass a practical flight evaluation with an FAA Designated Pilot Examiner.

How Long Does it Take To Get A Private Pilot Certificate?

We recommend our students fly 2 times a week, to ensure steady progress.  At that rate it would take approx. 30 weeks.  However this all depents upon you and the dedication you provide.
